College Comparison

By Rob Lafary EIAC/ORVC Beat Writer

Versailles-  In an unusual setting during the regular season, the Greensburg
Pirates traveled to Tyson Auditorium to take on the South Ripley Raiders on a
Tuesday night for an EIAC/ORVC showdown.  For the Pirates, another unusual
occurence happened, a 56-41 loss to the Raiders.  The Pirates, who have
dominated the overall series versus South Ripley over the last five years found
putting the ball in the basket very difficult on Tuesday night.  The first half
would be the only highlights for Greensburg as they led the ballgame after the
first and second quarters.  South Ripley had trouble getting started in the
first quarter as Greensburg big man Alex Meyer had his way with the Raiders
inside game getting two blocked shots and several early rebounds helping the
Pirates take a 8-3 lead after one quarter.  The tide would turn however in the
second quarter as Meyer would find himself on the bench with three fouls and the
Raiders immediately went to work inside with center Trent Tucker who played
himself a fine ballgame with 11 points and 13 rebounds.  Two three pointers by
BJ Sieverding later in the quarter would put the Raiders down 19-18 at halftime
but South Ripley was just getting started.  The second half would be a matter of
who shot the basketball better and South Ripley won by a long shot.
                                             Greensburg
shot a dismal 27% from the field leading to an overall 29% for the game while
South Ripley shot 53% from the field in the second half.  South Ripley outscored
the Pirates 24-12 in the third as the Raiders would have big quarters from
junior Kyle Patrick and senior superstar Michael Fear.  From there the Raiders
took off and never looked back as the Raiders continued dominance on the
defensive end and outrebounded the Pirates for the night 40-27.  The score
though was the only thing that mattered as the Raiders took a win on Senior
Night 56-41.  Leading the scoring for South Ripley was BJ Sieverding and Trent
Tucker with 11 points.  Also having big games were Kyle Patrick who finished
with 9 points and 4 rebounds and Michael Fear who despite only having 8 points
dropped 8 assists on the Pirates.  For Greensburg, Bobby Koors would lead the
Pirates with 15 points and Alex Meyer finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 4
blocked shots.  Greensburg, now 8-11 on the year travels to East Central on
Friday night to take on the Trojans in an EIAC matchup while South Ripley now
9-9 finishes their season this week against two ORVC opponents traveling to
Rising Sun on Thursday and then traveling to the Eagle's Nest to take on the 1A
                                             ranked Jac-Cen-Del Eagles.
